Do You Need to See A Doctor?

Please don’t forget there are many services available for you, depending on your condition. These include:

  • Self-care – This is the best choice to treat minor illnesses and injuries such as hangovers, coughs, colds, grazes, small cuts or sore throats. Many of these can be treated at home, simply with over-the-counter medicines and plenty of rest.
  • Pharmacy – Pharmacists can give advice on and treat a range of symptoms. They can support you with things such as diarrhoea, earaches, painful coughs, sticky eyes, teething and rashes.
  • We can also refer you to the Pharmacy for a direct call and appointment with a pharmacist.
  • Click here for more information about other services and self care.
  • NHS 111  –  You can access 111 online or via the telephone. This is for any urgent but non-life threatening health concerns. They will be able to signpost you to the relevant service and provide advice where appropriate, or book you in to an Urgent Treatment Centre.
  • A&E / 999 – You should only attend A&E or dial 999 in a life-threatening emergency such as severe bleeding, breathing difficulties and severe chest pain.

Other Appointments

Most appointments with a doctor or nurse can be booked up to 6 weeks in advance. Our appointment telephone lines are open 08:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:30, Monday to Friday (0121 743 2159 & 0121 742 8304).

We also have other clinicians such as Physicians Associate, Paramedic, Clinical Pharmacist, Mental Health Practitioner, Advanced Nurse Practitioner. All these people can see all sorts of ailments and allow the doctors to see the most complicated.

Booking an Appointment Online

Click on the link at the top of this page to book on-line using our secure booking system. (Please ask at reception if you wish to register for this.) On-line appointments are not available for the same day.  These are available 6 weeks ahead.

Or you can use the NHS App. You can self register to this app.

Locum Doctors

Locum doctors are used to cover surgeries when your doctor is on holiday, study leave or sick leave.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

If you have the NHS APP, you can cancel your appointment from here too.
